A great time in Great Britain

So I took my first international trip. I flew 7 hours across the ocean to London, England. Ever since I was ten and found my true love for the Beatles, I have always wanted to visit England.I'm sure London is quite different from Liverpool, but its still a place I needed to check out. I must say it was one of the most beautiful places I've been. I got quite lucky because the weather was beyond perfect. I understand it rains there a lot, but yesterday there wasn't a cloud in the sky!
Of course my day began in the pub. The captain bought us all a round and we started exploring. Since it was my first time the crew decided to show me the tourist stuff. I was actually tempted to get on the top of one of those double decker tour buses they have. Maybe next time.
But basically I saw Big Ben, The Abbey, Buckingham Palace and St. James' Garden.
I also explored a few cute little shops but unfortunately shopping in Europe isn't a good idea because of the exchange rate. I spent way too much money as it is, and I really have nothing to show for it. Except my token souvenir shot glass.
While we were at our second pub having some delicious beer, an enormous group of business met flocked in exactly at 4:00. It was crazy to see how quickly they hit the bars after work. And how many of them there were. They filled up the pub and I'd say a good fifty more got their beers and stood outside the pub. We ended up at a third pub and I had some not so impressive Shepherd's pie. No one told me the food would be anything special. It was fine, but thats about it.
Besides mediocre food, and expensive...everything...the buildings were beautiful, the sights were amazing and I can't wait to go back again.
Next week I'll be traveling to Ireland.
Until then have a wonderful week.

In a New York state of mind....

So aside from the traveling, I have been fortunate enough to be based out of New York City, New York. Before my move up here I had only lived in the state of Tennessee before so this was quite a change for me. I can't complain though. this city is a fantastic place to spend my days off. I get together with a few of my other flight attendant friends, and we hit the town. It is quite an expensive city to live in. I don't think I've ever had to pay $10 for a beer anywhere else before... well drinking in Canada can get a little expensive.

Anyways I haven't gotten around to seeing a Broadway show yet and I still need to take some time to check out the MET, but its on my to do list. I personally have enjoyed walking around, looking in shops and looking at all the people. It can get a little overwhelming to me at times but its really beautiful. And right now the weather couldn't be better. New York is a fun city to live in at this stage of my life, but its not where I plan on staying. I think I'll give it a couple years then try somewhere new.

I've met some really awesome people up here. They have shown me around so I don't always have to feel like a tourist wandering around. My new friend Matt even took me to my first Mets game. I'm glad I got to see Shea Stadium at least one time before they tear it down. I mean, The Beatles played there in 65... thats big time stuff.

Everyday here is a new and exciting experience. The public transportation is convenient and 24 hours so there is never a fear of getting stranded somewhere at 3 in the morning. I'm definitely not in the South anymore and getting adjusted wasn't quite as hard as I thought, but I still feel the difference once in a while.

I know I have a lot more exploring to do and I can't wait to do it. I have a couple more trips this month so check back for some hopefully exciting stories. My travels will take me to Europe next. I have a feeling my trip to Dublin will be a drunken blur... I'm stoked.

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.

I love Seattle but I hate redeyes

Seattle, Washington. Amazing.
I have had many friends tell me that they love Seattle and I have heard once or twice that it might be one of their favorite cities. I can easily see why. I showed up to this city after a six hour flight through lots of turbulence, and pretty much passed out when I arrived to my hotel. Because of the time change I checked in to my hotel at 11pm but it felt like 2 am.

Lucky for me it was a 24 hour layover so I had plenty of time to sleep and then get up the next day and do everything I wanted to do. I first checked out the space needle. I mean you have to see it if you go to Seattle right? Then I went to the Experience Music Museum and the Science Fiction Museum. Those buildings were amazingly beautiful. They were created in memory of Jimi Hendrix and they looked like it. I of course sampled some of the northwest's finest local beers. If any of you ever travel out west I highly recommend drinking some Fat Tire. Its probably one of the best beers I have to date.

After my museum touring I found a nice mall to walk around in. And finally I ended up in the Pike Place Market where they have all the fresh fish you could dream of. Its also where they throw the fish so that was fun to watch for a while. I also had some dinner there... probably the freshest salmon I've ever had. It was fantastic.

The buildings were beautiful and it didn't rain too much. I heard its supposed to rain like 60 percent of the time so I felt fortunate to be walking around in the sun. The city was a lot hillier than I expected but it made for a good workout since I walked everywhere. For your information though the public transportation in Seattle is fantastic. If you do chose to take the buses they are mostly free... depending on what area you are going around in. I loved it.

I would gladly go back again. But next time I don't think I can handle working a redeye back to New York. I could hardly stay away. And falling asleep on the jumpseat is a big problem with the FAA. So I just bounced around the galley, chugging coffee and chatting up my flight crew.

Sometimes I feel like an underpaid psychologist on these flights. It strange working with 15,000 other flight attendants. Mostly because I show up for a trip, meet 3 or 4 new girls/guys and share a fun couple days.. we learn just about everything there is to know about each other then we part ways and probably never see one another again.

I love it though friends. Traveling is more exciting than I could ever have hoped for.

I start international flights this month. So please check back for more exciting stuff.

Peace, love and clouds,

Sunny California

So one month has gone by since I've started this amazing job. It has gone by fast. And I realized I have promised to share my stories and have yet to do so. So this post will cover the first few trips I've been on and a few pictures for your enjoyment as well.

I'm pretty sure my first layover spoiled me. I went to San Francisco and I fell in love. That was my first experience in California and just the view while landing was enough to make me want to go back again. I only had 18 hours to explore and luckily my friend Phillip had just moved there so he showed me around. I arrived downtown at my hotel and when I looked out my window and I saw the most beautiful view (see pics above).

One of the most exciting things I got to do after walking around and people watching for a while was visit Haight Ashbury. It was nice to be standing in the very place that went down in psychedelic 60's history. Especially after reading Tom Wolfe's Electric Koolaid Acid Test I was very excited. That area of town was quite different. I saw people in costumes, hippies, and people just drinking and having a good time. We ate dinner at a cute little wine bar where we sampled some fine California wine. Then as a special treat Phillip got tickets for us to see Margaret Cho in Concert. She was incredibly funny. It was a most enjoyable experience and I can not stress how badly I want to go back. I have a feeling California is always going to put a smile on my face.

That city was quite amazing and I couldn't have asked for a better first trip. My crew was also fantastic. So far this job has been everything I have hoped. I will fill you in on more layovers very soon.

Until then, peace love and clouds my friends.

The journey begins

This morning I received a very friendly phone call from the airline telling me I have passed my background check. It took them quite a while and I have been waiting by the phone with anticipation. But the wait is over and they set up my training date to begin on January 29th.
I hear that flight attendant training is a bit rough but I think I'm ready for it. I will be studying and preparing everyday. I have six weeks of training and then I will be moving to New York City to fly out of JFK. As soon as I have some nice trips set up I will inform everyone of my future travels. I will post lots of pictures and stories.
This is an exciting chapter of my life and I am thrilled to share everything with you.
The picture I have posted for this blog is of me with my mentor, Honey. She gave me lots of advice through out this process and has been a flight attendant herself for 38 years. It was wonderful to have her help.
I also have a new haircut. I think its more "flight attendant in New York".
